The Rajasthan State Centre of the Institution organized the Twenty-sixth National Convention of Production Engineers during May 7-8, 2011, at Jaipur. The Chief Guest, Prof Kripa Shanker, Vice Chancellor, Gautam Buddh Technical University (formerly UPTU), inaugurated the Convention and delivered the G C Sen Memorial Lecture. Prof N Singh, Chairman, RGBSI, USA, delivered the F W Taylor Memorial Lecture through audio conference from USA, since he could not attend the Convention due to some preoccupations. Prof N M Singhvi, Chairman, Administrative Reforms, HRD & Manpower Planning Committee, Government of Rajasthan, graced the occasion as the Guest-of-Honour and delivered lecture addressing various issues including entrepreneurship development and emphasized the need to focus on fundamental research areas pertaining to production engineering. Mr R C Bairathi, Chairman, Production Engineering Division Board, while presiding over the function, highlighted various aspects embracing the main theme and elaborated the role of IEI in propagating technical knowledge through arrays of technical activities. Earlier, Mr R P Gupta, Past President, IEI and Col (Dr) J L Saghal, Chairman of the Centre welcomed the dignitaries and the participants and Dr G S Dangayach, Member, PRDB, IEI, elaborated the theme. On this occasion, three eminent engineers, namely, Dr S K Calla, Former Chairman & Managing Director, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited; Mr P M Bhardwaj, Director (Production), Instrumentation Limited, Kota and Mr R P Udawat, Advisor, Man Structurals Limited, Jaipur, were felicitated for their valuable contributions in the field of Production Engineering. Also the IEI Young Engineers Award for the year 2011, were presented to Dr J Ramkumar, Associate Professor, IIT Kanpur; Dr Sandhya Rani Biswas, Assistant Professor, NIT, Rourkela and Dr B Madhan, Scientist ‘C’, CLRI, Chennai, for their contributions in the field of Production Engineering. Mr O P Harkut, Honorary Secretary of the Centre, proposed the vote of thanks. A National Seminar on the theme ‘New Vistas in Production Technologies’, was organized concurrently as a part of the Convention where papers on various sub-themes were presented and discussed during technical sessions.
